Film: Seena (Kannada)

Cast: Tharun, Priyanka, Anthara Reddy, Ninasam Aswath, Satyajit, Ramesh Bhat, Rekha

Director : Basavaraj Bellary

SEENA, an action-packed flick reminiscent of the old times, is the third film for hero Tharun, after Hani Hani and Gelaya. While the first one crashed at the box-office, the second one was above average.

Tharun, who plays Seena, the main protaganist in the movie, was struggling to put up a good show in most of the sequences.

Perhaps, it is too early for him to play such a character.

The first half of the film is full of violence and a majority of the sequences are absolutely illogical.

For example, a shootout at a judge’s residence, when rowdies enter his house with fire arms so casually that it would seem they were walking in for a cup of coffee.

The other sequence is at the police lockup where the the hero was beaten black and blue, and is produced in court with a bloody face. Also it is not clear what inspired Basavaraj Bellary to select an iron ore mine at Bellary to shoot a romantic song sequence.

The flick centres around Seena (Tharun) who is ready to do anything for money. He happens to save a judge (Ramesh Bhat) from an anti-social element, and in cinematic style the judge’s daughter Parisara (Anthara Reddy) falls in love with Seena. The more she tries to get closer to Seena, the more he avoids her. He is arrested for ‘kidnapping’ of street children, and the judge decides to send him to prison but Parisara enters the court as a lawyer and defends Seena.

Meanwhile, the director explains how Seena was in deep love with Hrudaya (Priyanka) and how she died of epilepsy following which he decided to work for the welfare of street children. Finally, the film ends with Seena ending his life at Hrudaya’s grave. Ridden with violence and illogical sequences, one would need patience to sit through the movie.
