CHENNAI: Director Shankar is going to direct the Tamil and Telugu remakes of the Bollywood superhit ‘3 Idiots’. Confirmed reports say that Vijay and Mahesh Babu will play the lead roles in Tamil and Telugu respectively.
Ever since Gemini Productions acquired the film’s remake rights in Tamil and Telugu, they were looking for a good director to take charge of the project. Finally, they have clinched a deal with director Shankar who is busy wrapping up the post production works of the Rajnikanth-Aishwarya Rai starrer ‘Endhiran – The Robot’.
Rumour has it that Shankar intends to cast Jeeva and Siddarth in the other two roles that were performed by Sharman Joshi and Madhavan respectively in Hindi. Siddharth has denied reports that he was approached for the role.
Vijay’s career graph nosedived like never before after half a dozen flops. Even though he has two films getting ready for release, the task of reestablishing his box office credibility is going to be a tough one. The remake could just do the trick for him.
