CHENNAI : Actor KR Singamuthu was on Sunday arrested and remanded in judicial custody following a complaint against him by comedian Vadivelu ’s manager.

In the complaint, Shankar alleged that Singamuthu barged into Vadivelu’s office-cum-residence at Saligramam in the morning. He allegedly claimed that their leader (Vadivelu) had filed false complaints against him and that he was ready to face any number of such complaints.

He also held out threats, a police official said.

Vadivelu was not present in the house at the time, he added.

Singamuthu was booked under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 294-B (obscene act or words) and 506-2 (criminal intimidation), the officer said. He was produced before the 18th Metropolitan Magistrate Judge, who remanded him to 15-day judicial custody.

The clash between the two actors, who appeared together as comedy duo in several films, became evident after Vadivelu submitted a complaint to City Police Commissioner T Rajendran in February, alleging that Singamuthu had defrauded him to the tune of Rs 7 crore in land deals. Following the complaint, Singamuthu obtained anticipatory bail from the Madras High Court.
