CHENNAI: Looks like the attempts by actor-director Prabhu Deva's wife Ramlath alias Latha through the media and friends were not enough to persuade him to sever his relationship with actress Nayantara. She has now moved a family court, seeking restoration of her conjugal rights.
In her petition submitted on Monday, Latha (38) said she was interested in living with Deva (41), and prayed for a court direction to her husband to join her in their matrimonial home and "lead a peaceful and joyful life".
She said she had married Deva on September 8, 1995, and that they had three children - both from and out of wedlock.
She claimed that she came to know of her husband's illicit affair with Nayantara, whom he met while directing Tamil film 'Villu' in 2008.
Latha said Deva had refused to pay heed to even actor Rajnikanth's advice of returning to his family. She also pointed out that when their first son, Basava Raju alias Vishal, died in 2008, Deva left the house at the behest of Nayantara.
After Deva admitted in an interview to a website on September 13 that he would propose to Nayantara shortly, the actress herself called on her and insisted that she give her consent for his second marriage, Latha said.
She alleged that Nayantara had also spread rumours that Latha had been paid Rs 3 crore in cash, and given 180 sovereigns of gold jewellery and a necklace worth over Rs 85 lakh to grant her consent.
Latha claimed Nayantara was preventing him from supporting his family financially.
