CHENNAI: Mani Rathnam’s ‘Raavanan’ might have received unfavourable reviews in India, but the international audience seems to like the film and Vikram’s performance in it.

Vikram, who had flown down to 37th Venice International Film Festival, says he was surprised by the response.

‘Raavanan’ was screened in the third week of the film festival. The actor says that the film received standing ovation.

Vikram said, “The audience didn’t understand the film’s language and still they liked it. They loved the ‘Usure poguthey’ song. When we were asked to come upon the dais, an Italian actor expressed his wish to work with Mani Rathnam in an Italian film. Mani Rathnam isn’t very emotive, but, for the first time I could see his eyes were filled with unrestrained happiness.”

The actor's new film will be directed by ‘Madrasapattinam’ Vijay. Shooting begins next month.
