Actor Vimal is in cloud nine! His first period flick, Vaagai Sooda Vaa, is in post-production stages and has generated a lot of curiosity in the industry. Vimal brims with energy as he speaks. “I don’t know whether I will get such a film again and I know that this is going to be my best film ever! It was the opportunity I was looking for about 10 years ago.”

After giving back-to-back hits like National Award winning film Pasanga, Kalavani, Thoonga Nagaram, Eththan, the lead hero says it has been a different experience altogether working in Vaagai Sooda Vaa. “This is my second film with director Sargunam.  It’s a very light-hearted entertainer, set in 1960s. I play the role of Veluthmabi, who has passed PUC.”

Predictably, there’s a love story where Velu falls in love with Mathi, the owner of a tea shop, played by Iniya, a newcomer from Kerala. Vimal says he had to change his body language altogether to suit the character. “You would have observed that Arikki’s character in Kalavani was stiff. But in Vaagai Sooda Vaa, my character is very different from the usual cheat-and-the-cheated kind I have done before and I needed to focus more on my body language. Also, I have not used any dupes for the stunts. I’ve done them all myself,” he explains, proudly. “After a busy 75-day schedule, I ended up with scratches and sprains all over my body. But it was worth it.”

Having started with supporting roles in Ghilli, Kireedom and Kuruvi, Vimal’s previous characters have all received rave reviews. He is also set to act in yet-to-be named films, one with Pandiraj and the other with Balaji Productions.

There is a message in the film which will be revealed only after its release. The film is being produced by Village Theatres, their first production.
