Actress Taapsee Pannu seems very cautious while choosing her second movie, as her debut film, Aadukalam went on to win six National Awards. After almost a year, Taapsee has rightly landed up in Vandaan Vendraan, in which she pairs up with Jiiva. The excitement is vivid on her face, as she talks about the movie.
“VV is a city-based subject and I play an architect. Anjana, the character I play, is a normal girl-next-door kind of character who talks a lot and has dreams and ambitions of her own,” she explains. Taapsee is grateful to director Kannan for trusting her with the role, especially in early stage of her career. “In the depiction of his characters, plot and storyline, you will not find any larger than life kind of elements.”
Taapsee is all praise for her co-star Jiiva, whom she calls a “thorough professional”. However, she doesn’t have any scenes with Santhanam in the film, which she feels sad about.
Although her mother tongue is not Tamil, Taapsee says she is more comfortable with the language after Aadukalam. However, the actress is happy about her first Bollywood project, where she is going to speak in mother tongue — Hindi. “I have signed a film with David Dhawan that will go on floors from November. It’s a remake of a yesteryear film, Chashme Baddoor, and has Siddhartha and Omi Vaidya,” she says.
And is quick to add that South Indian films will continue to be her priority. “I have received so much recognition in both Tamil and Telugu industries. At the time when Aadukalam released, I wondered whether it will be overshadowed by other big films like Vijay’s Kaavalan and Karthi’s Siruthai,” she admits.
After the National Awards were announced, Taapsee says she first called director Vettrimaran and “told him that success of the film and also the accolades cast and crew have received was all because of him” .
After four films in Telugu now, Taapsee has signed yet another film in Telugu titled Mogudu and her Mollywood debut has already happened with Doubles.
