Kollywood has always seen sons, successors and siblings of popular stars entering the industry. Following the suit now is Varun, cousin of Dhanush. His debut flick titled ‘Mallukattu’ has him in the lead, while Honey Rose, who starred with Jiiva in ‘Singam Puli’, plays the female lead here.

Directed by debutant T Muruganantham, the film was shot in Theni and Kerala and completed in a 45 day schedule.

Produced by The Film Company, it is through post production phase now. Taj Noor has scored music for the film and the audio launch is due in August.

“The film is a realistic love story with a fair share of comedy and fights. ‘Mallukattu’ is all about unexpected encounters and you can’t classify it either as a rural film or an urban film,” says T Muruganandham.

The 26-year-old Varun is happy to be introduced and identified as Dhanush’s cousin. “I graduated in 2006 with a degree in Electronics Communication and have worked with director Shivakumar and Selvaraghavan.”

Talking about his role models and inspirations, he says, “Rajinikanth has always been my role model and I have been inspired by Vikram’s acting as well.”

Varun is happy about Dhanush’s growth and achievements as an actor. “I congratulated him for having won the National Award for ‘Aadukalam’ as the best actor. And Dhanush also told me that he was waiting for the release of my film,” he says.

The rest of the cast includes Bharath Reddy (villain) and Sabesh Karthik (comedy).
