On the occasion of World Music Day, Landmark and Access Atlantech Edutainment (AAT) came together to organise an evening of music with performances by three bands, a workshop on music composing with an interactive session and an anti piracy campaign.
Music director Vijay Ebenezer’s demonstration, as part of the workshop, would have made one feel that scoring music is so simple if you just had a computer packed with various kinds of musical/instrumental tracks and a recorder. “Technology has made things easy for musicians in a big way,” he said. He shared how he was inspired by the works of Harris Jayaraj and AR Rahman. “There will be a right balance in their music.”
The workshop was followed by performance by different bands. 83 Miles Per Hour, a rock band from SAE College, performed two numbers, while Sapta, a band from Paris (France) comprising Marti and Kiran, who specialise in Indian fusion electronic music, performed three songs. Chennai-based band Soul-Sonic comprising Suvi Suresh, Kaal and Josh first performed a song titled Mind Games written and composed by Suvi Suresh, followed by some foot-tapping R&B and groovy Acoustics.
Next was the anti-piracy campaign addressed by actor Shantnoo Bhagyaraj, singers Aaalap Raju, Sucharita aka Rita and Suvi Suresh. Aaalap Raju urged that listeners bought audio CDs instead of downloading it from the internet and “make it a habit, just like going for movies”. Suvi, on the other hand, said, “Make use of the internet — the World Wide Wed to upload your own music, get people to listen to it and create loan banks to buy your music which could help cut costs of record labels.” Actor Shantnoo said, “No sooner did the music of Kandaen release, it was uploaded by unknown sources on the web. And even when the movie released, it was on Youtube for the world to download. Pirated CDs of the movie were available in parts of Chennai like Ritchie Street, Parrys etc. The film industry and the music industry suffer a lot and it affects the life of people who earn a living out of it.”
