It’s not easy for a heroine in the Tamil film industry to put her versatility to test and try out a variety of characters. A majority of Tamil films are after all, hero-oriented. Yet, there are a handful of heroines who choose their scripts carefully and give their best shot to each character they portray. One such actor is Poorna, who got her much-needed break in Aadupuli, in which she’s paired opposite to Aadhi. “I want to do different roles, so that I can stay in the minds of the audience. Aadupuli gave me a good break and I would like to sustain it,” she says.

The actress was upset when her previous release Drohi didn’t fare too well at the box office. “I don’t know why Drohi didn’t do well, but I’m happy that Aadupuli has been getting a positive response. It’s encouraging to know that the collections for the film have been good,” says the young star.

The chemistry between Poorna and Aadhi in the film has been much talked about. But the actress says what they share is just good friendship. “For both Aadhi and me, Aadupuli is the fourth movie. While we were shooting the romantic scenes, I was surprised when he told me he couldn’t loosen up and get the comfort level right. Because, however uncomfortable a hero is, it’s very rare that he reveals it. I was touched by Aadhi’s honesty and straightforwardness,” smiles Poorna, and adds, “It’s all fine now, because the movie has come out well and my friends say the chemistry between us was brilliant.”

This pretty lass is now busy shooting for an untitled Telugu project opposite Allari Naresh in Hyderabad. “I’m missing Chennai and I would love to come back again,” she says. “After three long years I’m doing a Telugu film. My first movie was Sri Mahalakshmi,” she tells us. Poorna has completed the shooting of Vellore Mavattam, in which she plays a housewife. She is also through with her other films — Arjunan Kadhali and Vithagan. “There is a lot of competition in the industry, and  a new heroine makes her entry everyday. I’m very choosy about my roles; only then will I be remembered,” concludes the actor.
