Her first film Tamil Padam earned as much appreciation from audiences as it raised eyebrows in the industry. Now, Disha Pandey looks like she is bound to make heads turn again with her second film, Mayanginen Thayanginen, being directed by ST Vendhan.
Begins Disha, on a very cautious note, “I am not sure if I can disclose the details of the film to the media at this point. However, I’ll just give you an idea of what my role is in the film.” She adds, “I play a call center employee who falls in love with a taxi driver in the film.”
A call centre employee falling in love with a taxi driver? “Yes, the call centre is for a company that provides taxi services,” she informs. Fine. That explains it. But then point out to her the claim of the director of the film ST Vendan that the film is one that has a strong social message and she immediately nods in agreement.
“It is true. The film’s story will have a social message. It will emphasise on the need to end the sexual abuse of mentally challenged women,” she says.
But does she play a mentally challenged person in the film? Says Disha, “No, I play the relative of a mentally challenged person who is admitted to a home.”
Beyond that, the actress is unwilling to disclose information. She directs us to her director Vendhan who is more forthcoming with the information.
Vendhan says, “My film has action, romance and comedy along with a strong social message. It is against the sexual abuse of mentally ill women who stay in certain homes. The movie is based on my personal experiences. I recently rescued two women with the help of my friends from a home. I am not criticising all the homes. But there are a few that do abuse women.”
Commenting on her experience of working with her team and especially her co-star, Nithin Sathya, Disha says, “It was nice working with the entire team. Nithin was very co-operative. He is that kind of an actor who will share ideas and help you with your expressions and dialogues.”
Mayanginen Thayanginen, which is being produced by Rajeshwari Vendhan, has Kannan of Tamil Padam fame composing music.
The film, the shooting of which was completed a week ago, is all set to hit screens soon.
