G V Prakash seems to be on fire at the moment. He is just 24 and has already hit a 25! Yes, the music director has just finished composing for his 25th film titled Thandavam, being directed by Vijay of Deiva Thirumagal fame. Says he, “It all started with Veyil, directed by Vasanthabalan, and from then on, it’s been a remarkable journey for me.” The music director who has given hits like Veyilodu Velayadi..., Un mela aasathaan...and Vizhigalil..., has worked with a lot of well-known directors including P Vasu and Selvaraghavan.

The youngster, who is now making waves with his Mayakkam Enna tunes, is on cloud nine as his favourite director Vetrimaaran has chosen him once again for his next film, Vada Chennai.

Says GV, “It’s a hattrick. Vetrimaran and I are working again and this time, it’s completely a different genre. Everytime I compose for him, I try to work with a different medium of music. In Aadukalam, the music had a Madurai flavour to it but in Vada Chennai, all the songs will have a Chennai touch. It will appeal to our crowd.”

Apart from working with his favourtie directors, GV will also be composing music for director Bala’s next film and Bharathiraja’s Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum. Explains he, “Working with both legendary directors is a privilege. In fact, Bharathiraja sir is able to vibe with today’s genre and I’m hoping to give him a hit in this film. We have completed six tunes and Vairamuthu sir has penned the lyrics. It’s a village-based story. So, the music has a folk touch to it. In all my films, I have always tried to do something different. For instance, in Mayakkam Enna, I have composed an orchestral background score, which is definitely going to be appreciated.”

GV believes any simple song that has quirky lyrics can be sung by anyone and so, he prefers his actors sing it. “I give my actors the freedom to sing just to keep the songs original. For a song like Pookul pookam..., only Harini and RoopKumar can do justice, but I wanted Dhanush to sing a song like Voda Voda... from Mayakkam Enna because he has penned the lyrics and it will be original.”

Presently, the music director is composing tunes for a Hindi film, Joker.
