Monika, who shot to fame with her roles in ‘Azhagi’, ‘Imsai Arasan 23m Pulikesi’ and ‘Silandhi’, is excited about her next film ‘Varnam’, which has just hit screens. The actress has starred as a school teacher in the film.
Says the actress, “I play a school teacher in the film that has been directed by Raj. The role required a certain amount of maturity to be displayed and I think I have done justice to the role in the film.”
Sources close to the unit of the film say that the actress chose to do the role in the film without any make-up. Ask her about it and Monika replies, “It is true. I have not used any make-up in this film. And I had to put in quite a bit of effort to learn the mannerisms of a teacher. It took time but I was happy, proud and content by the time I finished.”
When a film’s heroine chooses to act without make up, would her decision not affect the prospects of the film, especially, at a time when the audience seems to prefer commercial entertainers?
Replies Monika, “I may have not have opted for make-up for my role but this does not mean the film does not have commercial ingredients. The film does have the ingredients essential for a commercial entertainer. In fact, it is a commercial entertainer that will meet the expectations of the audience.”
