The confrontation between actress Sona and SP Charan over the issue of the latter misbehaving with the actress at a party seems to be intensifying with each passing day. The battle which started with Sona alleging that Charan had sought sexual favours from her, has now reached a stage where Sona is all set to stage a dharna along with members of a women’s organization in front of the producer’s house demanding a public apology.
“Charan must tender a public apology. If he fails to do so in the next two days, we will stage a dharna in front of his home demanding one,” the actress- turned-producer told City Express. The incident in question reportedly took place at a party organised to celebrate the success of the film ‘Mankatha’.
Soon after Charan refuted her allegations and filed a defamation suit against her, the actress announced that she would stage a dharna in front of his residence until he tendered an apology.
The actress, however, had to postpone her decision as she had not got permission from the police department to stage the agitation. “I did not know initially that I required police permission to stage dharna. But when I got to know, I met the police officials concerned,” the actress said.
She also disclosed that the case had been transferred to the T Nagar police station. “I met the Assistant Commissioner yesterday and he was cooperative and gave me a patient hearing. I have given him all the evidence I had,” she said.
When asked why the compromise measures initiated by well wishers had failed, she said, “Usually, only who does something wrong should apologize. But they asked me to sign a letter last Sunday which had the words — misconceived notion. As it would mean that I had made up the whole issue if I signed the letter, I refused to do it.”
Commenting on those expressing support for her, Sona said, “Kumar and Kalpana, members of a women’s rights organisation, offered help when I approached them.” The actress claims to have provided adequate video evidence to the cops. “SP Charan thinks it’s bullshit, but my lawyer Thangasivam says the evidence is more than enough,” she fumed.
When asked about director Venkat Prabhu’s denial of the whole issue on Twitter, Sona said, “He doesn’t want his 25-year-long friendship with SP Charan to go for a toss. He could have at least diplomatically stood by the truth. But I’m not sure if he will also get into trouble when my complaint is proved right.”
The actress also added that Venkat Prabhu is yet to pay back the advance she had given him for directing a movie. “He didn’t say he wouldn’t give the money back. But he has been delaying for three months now,” she added.
‘Charan to wait and watch’
Even as Sona refused to give up her demand for an apology, Charan continued to maintain a stoic silence. However, sources close to the producer disclosed that he was looking forward to Sona withdrawing the case or both parties arriving at a compromise.
Sources claim that the producer believes the video evidence that Sona submitted to the cops was just a video of his friends pleading with her to withdraw the case. They claimed that there was nothing obscene in the video and that it could not be considered evidence.
The sources also added that Charan was intent on putting an end to “the false case” filed against him. They said the producer was at the moment following the wait and watch strategy.
