An actor can try different roles only if he does not get caught in an image-trap. So it’s no wonder that up and coming heroes go for projects that are far from big stars’ expectations, and yet relevant to common people. Such a project is Mye in which actor Vishnupriyan has played the lead role. After having played important roles in Ilakkanam, Thotta, Ninaithalae Inikum and Ayyanar, he is very sure about the success of Mye.

Directed by Che Ra Gopalan, Mye has been set in the Vellore district and revolves around the forthcoming council elections. “It’s about a carefree youth, who, after meeting his lady love, wants to contest in the local elections. The tricks he uses to win the elections is what the movie is all about,” says Vishnupriyan. A new face, Swetha Basu, pairs up with him in the film and the other important characters are played by actors Jayaprakash, Ramprakash and Lollusabhu Swaminathan.

The actor says Vellore has been captured in its natural beauty in the film. “The film has a scene shot at the real cow market, Poigai, in Vellore. And we also got permission from the archeological department to shoot at  the Jalagandeshwarar temple in Vellore Fort,” he says. Vishnupriyan has also spent a couple of days in Vellore to learn the slang and the mannerism of those in the town. The actor adds that the crew was particular about avoiding cliched  political dialogues featured in earlier movies and promises that Mye will sport a fresh look.

Vishnupriyan is a product of Koothu-p-pattarai and his first movie was Nizhal Kuthu in Malayalam, directed by famous filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan. “In the last seven years, I have done very few films. But I don’t mind waiting for scripts like Mye,” says Vishnupriyan. The movie will hit screens in October.
