It seems everyone involved in 'Thuppakki' was waiting for the opportunity to share their delight of being part of an important film in their career.
While the film has finally gone ahead with the first grand step of the launch of its audio after being stuck in title trouble, the core crew of the film used the podium to spill the beans on the behind the scenes action. Its hero Vijay said he had never attempted a film as this one before.
“It’s more like a dream project for me. I have seen all films of A R Murugadoss and he is such a fantastic story-teller. He never allows your attention to divert,” he said.
Vijay knows the director from the time of Kushi, a film in which the latter worked as an assistant, and since then wanted to work with him.
Vijay said that he never expected the opportunity to work with ace cinematographer Santhosh Sivan and complimented Harris Jayaraj: “He keeps improvising the song right up to the last minute before recording.” Returning the compliment, Jayaraj said: “Vijay is no less than a professional singer.” Director Murugadoss said he was quite surprised by Vijay’s acting skills. “Be it timing, dance or dialogues — he usually gets it in the first take,” he said.
Apparently, the actor had lengthy Hindi dialogues in the film as he appears as a Tamil-born protagonist, brought up in Mumbai. Murugadoss went on: “My assistant told me that Vijay’s Hindi diction is very clear. I would even like to work on a Hindi film with Vijay,” he said, hinting at future projects with the actor.
He elaborated: “Vijay has sung a song that begins Google.. Google.. (penned by Madhan Karky). He came to Mumbai thrice for the song recording and the club song, with Andrea’s voice, will be something different for the audiences.”
Producer Dhanu said Thuppakki was initially supposed to be produced by Vijay’s father S A Chandrasekar. “I’m grateful to him for giving me this flick knowing well that it will surely be a blockbuster hit,” he said.
