Vijay Awards 2012: When the stars shone down

Vikram and Anjali won the best actor and actress awards for their performances in 'Deivathirumagal' and 'Engeyum Epodhum' respectively.

The sixth edition of Vijay Awards, an annual event organised by Star Vijay to recognise the talents in the Tamil film industry, was a glitzy affair. Winners in 34 categories were announced at the event, held on Saturday evening.

The one who took home the award for the Best Actor among heroes was Vikram, for his performance in 'Deivathirumagal'. Anjali was announced Best Actor among heroines for her work in 'Engeyum Eppodum'.

The Best director Award was given to Vetrimaran for 'Aadukalam', while 'Engeyum Eppodhum' was adjudged Best Film. The Best Music Director Award was given to GV Prakash for 'Aadukalam'.

The highlight of the evening was the screening of a special trailer of 'Vishwaroopam'. Actors Kamal Haasan, Pooja Kumar and Andrea Jeremiah were brought on  stage using special elevators. Kamal said it was the reception for his movies that he gave him the confidence to attempt a subject like 'Vishwaroopam'. The trailer had sequences of Kamal playing an effeminate kathak dancer. The ace actor hinted that his Bollywood venture could be 'Marudhanayagam', his ambitious project that was launched over a decade ago.

Another special event of the evening was the conferment of the Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan Award on singer SP Balasubramaniam by Kamal Haasan, composer AR Rahman and actor Prabhu. On Rahman’s request, SPB performed the former’s personal favourite of the singer, 'Anjali Anjali' from 'Duet'.

Actor Dhanush, who was given the Best Entertainer Award performed 'Kolaveri di' with musician Anirudh on stage, much to the delight of the huge gathering.

Actor Ajith, who did not make it to the event, was adjudged favourite hero by the public and best villain by the jury.
