The pathbreaking film Kaadhal has been her calling card all this while, and actor Saranya Nag is hopeful that it will change soon. This is because she is sure that her next movie, Mazhaikalam, will make her a known name. And this is due to the different role that the actor will be donning in the film — that of a nude model for artists.

“The last 20 minutes of the movie will have me posing in the nude and I have acted wearing a skin dress that suits my complexion. We shot those scenes for an entire night and it has come out really well,” says Saranya. Directed by debutant Deepan, Mazhaikalam is about two arts college students who fall in love with a girl, who is actually a nude model for artists.

“Despite accepting the film in order to do a challenging role, I was uncertain over whether I could pull it off. But the director had planned everything, and even collected reference material about these models. In fact, there were about 50 arts college students at the shooting spot and they were all very casual and had their mobile phones switched off to make me feel comfortable,” says Saranya.

When asked if she is ready to face objection raised against those scenes, she says, “You won’t feel uncomfortable when you watch the movie on screen. That’s why even the censor board has given a U certificate to Mazhaikalam. My parents and friends were also supportive, which means there won’t be any objection. Let’s see,” smiles Saranya. While Mazhaikalam has been slated for April 6 release, the actress has also done a movie titled Muyal and an awareness short film titled Bodhai.
