Title Thagararu

Director Ganesh Vinayak had to peruse nearly 50 titles before deciding on Thagararu.

Actor Arulnidhi’s upcoming film was initially titled Sambhuvam and later changed to Thagararu. With the film in its final stage of production now, director Ganesh Vinayak says he has had to scrutinise close to 50 titles, including Kanganam and Thara Ticket, before zeroing in on Thagararu. “It’s not that my story is tough to find a title, but every name we came across, including Sambhuvam, had already been registered. Thankfully, Thagararu was available and it’s a common word in everyday usage,” sighs Ganesh. Dayanidhi Azhagiri’s Cloudnine Movies is producing the film.

Though Thagararu was arrived at by chance, Ganesh Vinayak feels no other title would have suited his film better. “From the beginning till the end, the film traverses through one problem or the other,” he says. With a Madurai backdrop, the film is about a quartet — Arulnidhi, Murugadoss, Tharan and Phavan — which indulges in daylight robbery.

While Arulnidhi hasn’t gone through a major makeover for the film, Ganesh says the difference can be felt in his portrayal. “His characters have always been moody in previous films, but in Thagararu, you can see him in a casual role. He has an amazing sense of humour,” he says. Though the film is a thriller, the narration is said to be laced with humour.

Actor Poorna plays the heroine and Ganesh says her role will be much talked about after the release. Music director Dharan has composed four songs.

Ganesh agrees that the film took a while more than planned and says it was because of delays in getting permission to shoot in Madurai.
