She was in class 12, when she made her debut as a school student in 'Sattai'. But after that, actor Mahima Nambiar took a break for her studies before returning to Kollywood, with not one, but four films.
Opening up to CE, the youngster discloses that she’s living her childhood dream of being a star. “I always nursed a desire to be an actor but I never told anyone in my family. It was by chance that I met director Samy when I went for an ad shoot in Kerala, where he was also shooting. He wanted me to do a role in Sindhu Samaveli then. But I couldn’t take it up for personal reasons,” recalls Mahima. “However, the production executive of the film later recommended me to the team of Sattai, which is when I made my Kollywood debut.”
The camera is not new to the youngster. She played a small role in the Malayalam flick Karyasthan, when she was in class nine. But having a firm head on her shoulders, she hasn’t been carried away by showbiz, and seems to be giving equal importance to studies.
“I’m pursuing a BA in English Literature through correspondence now,” she says with a smile. Looks like the industry has warmed up to the talented actor, who at 18, is among the youngest in the industry.
Mahima is now part of Ennamo Nadakathu opposite Vijay Vasanth, Mosakutty opposite newbie Dinesh, directed by Jeevan, and Puravi 150 CC, a film directed by Cheran’s associate Venkat, in which Aditya is the hero. Her fourth film is Annaparavai, opposite newcomer Sathish, directed by Marudhu, who has earlier directed a TV serial.
Undoubtedly, Mahima is excited about her run of luck, when most newcomers are struggling to gain a foothold with the tough competition around. “I’m thrilled to have a variety of characters to play in each film,” she adds.
After playing a student in her debut film, she is now a nurse in Ennamo Nadakathu, and a bubbly, bold village girl in Annaparavai. She’s happy with every new experience that comes with a different role. “For Puravi 150 CC, I had to learn to ride a Yamaha bike. I even hit the camera vehicle by mistake on the first day, but noone shouted at me,” she says with a laugh. And who would she star with, in her dream role? “With Suriya,” she signs off.
