CHENNAI: Producers of the issue-ridden Vijay starrer Kaththi, Lyca Productions, rubbished allegations of their involvement with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa with Lyca Group CEO Subaskaran Allrajah, stating that Kaththi’s production budget was a mere two days’ turnover for the USD three billion Lyca Group, “Kaththi’s production budget is two days’ turnover for us. Why should Rajapaksa give us any money?” said Allirajah. The production house also stated that they would not back off from releasing the movie and would take all necessary steps to do so. The production house was also firm in stating that the protests would not have any bearing on the release of the movie and added that selling the movie was also not an option.
The movie directed by A R Murugadoss and featuring Vijay and Samantha with music by Anirudh has been facing continuous protests from fringe groups, alleging that the producers are involved with Mahinda Rajapaksa. The audio launch is scheduled for September 18. They were also dismissive of why the production house had only now released a statement regarding the allegations. Subaskaran said that they had not been devoting more attention to Kaththi than their regular business concerns, “We did not have time to have a press conference like this because the chairman was travelling to China, Seoul, Hiroshima and Dubai on a busy schedule. We have only arrived here because Kumaramoorthy (producer, Lyca Productions) said that we will have to clarify these issues,” vice-chairman of Lyca Group Premananthan Sivasamy added.
Subaskaran also said that he had not met the CM and sough help because this was an “insignificant issue”. He said, “I see no reason to bother her with a simple issue regarding a movie.”
