Set in North Madras, Naangellam Edagoodam revolves around the boxing sport. No great effort seems to have been taken to etch the screenplay or infuse freshness in the narration. The director has kept his storytelling to a simple level, confining it to about 113 minutes.
Maari and buddy Velu are orphans mentored by Mani, a boxing instructor. The orphans run into thug Devraj, who holds illegal boxing matches, fixing games for his benefit. Romance comes into the picture when Maari falls for Maha, who is in search of her father’s killer. Debutant Manoj’s rough, shabby and unkempt look suits the character of the youngster from the slums. The film has been made under his home production. He has performed with fair competence, even doing some of the stunts all by himself. Naangellam Edagoodam is at the most a passable fare.
