‘My Dream has Come True with Maindhan’

‘My Dream has Come True with Maindhan’

With a nine-year experience in the Malaysian film industry, actor and director C Kumaresan has taken the plunge into Kollywood with this flick.

He’s a well-known face in Malaysian film and television circuits. Now, with Maindhan, produced by Malaysia’s Astro Shaw and S S Wawasan, director and actor C Kumaresan, or CK as he is popularly known, comes to Kollywood. Also the co-producer of the movie, CK seemed to be mighty kicked about having the audio launch of the movie in Chennai.

“For nine years I’ve been a lead actor and director on Malaysian TV. I have been  been part of mega serials like GerakKhas and others. I’ve acted in several Tamil films made in Malaysia as well. Maindhan is my 7th feature film as hero.  But it’s any actor’s dream to have a release in Kollywood, where it all began. As I shared the stage with so many K Town dignitaries, I could hardly believe that my dream has come true! I had got many offers to act in Tamil films here, but nothing fell into place. Kollywood is the ocean of filmmaking. If I can manage to swim here and stay afloat, it’ll be fantastic!” says Kumaresan.

In Maindhan, which is also directed by him, Kumaresan’s co-stars include Punnagai Poo Geetha and Shaila Nair. The movie, which had an audio launch in Malaysia earlier, will be releasing in August in there. The makers are keen to set a release date for India as well.

Kumaresan is a second generation Malaysian Tamil. He had completed a three-year course in filmmaking at the Academy Film Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur before taking the plunge into showbiz. Talking about the film, Kumaresan says, “We’ve shot some scenes using drifting — a kind of racing technique that’s widely used in Hollywood movies like Tokyo Drift, New York Drift and so on. I play an illegal drifter  in the film. I had to undergo special training for the role.”

The actor has modified a Mazda RX7 sports car for the movie. Having played it all — from cop  movies to horror and love stories — he’s now excited about trying something new on screen. The movie also deals with the serious issue of child trafficking. “However, everything is presented in a commercial and entertaining manner,” says Kumaresan. While Geetha plays an event manager, Shaila plays a school teacher and his love interest in the film. The music has been composed by Mansher Singh, while Devenesan handles the camera.
