Little Thrill Or Humour In Wannabe Comic-Thriller

Little Thrill Or Humour In Wannabe Comic-Thriller

Film: Enna Satham

Indha Neram

Director: Guru Ramesh

Cast: Nitinsathyaa, Jeyam Raja, Malavika Wales, Maanu, Imman Annachi

The film opens in Rajasthan where a tragic incident happens after a snake is lost in transit to Chennai. Debutant director Guru Ramesh sets most of his story at a zoological Park in Chennai where a group of deaf-mute students of a school go on an excursion with their teacher. It's about the day's happenings there. Meant to be a comic-thriller, the film neither has much of thrill nor any real moments of fun and humour.

The narrative style and incidents are juvenile and seem to be meant for kids. But the message the film conveys is for adults - about being positive in life and not taking relationships for granted. The adult characters depicted seem to be going through some crises and are at the crossroads of life. At the end of the day they would find their perspectives changed. Anu and her husband Raja were on the verge of divorce; teacher Meenakshi planned to elope with her lover that day; zoo watchman Kathir, betrayed by his girlfriend, was on a suicide-mode; and another watchman (Annachi) was on a mission of illegally trading a peacock fowl for a hefty amount.

It was on such a day that the group of kids led by Meenakshi (Wales suitably fitting in) set out to the zoo. In the group are the identical quadruplets, children of Anu and Raja (Maanu, Raja). After some shots of the kids having a pleasant time watching the animals, the narration takes the thriller-mode where the quadruplets go missing. The merry score banging away in the background assures one that there was no need to be apprehensive about the missing kids.

Jeyam Raja in his debut is adequate in the limited screen space he's been given. Nitinsathyaa puts in a sincere effort, but hardly gets any genuine fun moments. Amateurish is the graphics of the snake on the prowl. But that's to be expected from a low budget venture. There are moments that are hardly inspiring. The film takes a dig at the media for their insensitive coverage. The cop and the minister who arrive at the spot, don't seem to be making any effort to reduce the tension. An animal activist tries to gain publicity for himself.

Enna satham.... is an Anaconda-Jurassic Park mix. What the director needs to be appreciated is his casting of identical quadruplets. They are pert, cute and lovable. And it's their screen presence that is worth a watch in the film.
