I Want to Work with Mani Ratnam, Says Vega Tamotia

Divulging more details about the movie, Vega says, “I have never played a North Indian village role before, so it’s going to be really interesting.

Vega Tamotia rose to fame with Tamil films like Saroja (2008) directed by Venkat Prabhu where she played the title character,  Pasanga (2009) directed by Pandiraj and Vaanam (2011) directed by Krish. Now, she is all set for a dream run in Bollywood in Gangaajal 2, where she plays Sunita. Talking about the role she says, “ She is a really strong and independent girl, living in the hinterland of India. I am basically the character which is the catalyst for the film she ignites the whole story.”

Divulging more details about the movie, Vega says, “I have never played a North Indian village role before, so it’s going to be really interesting. I am from a small town in Chhattisgarh called Korba. The role is very different from everything I have done before — be it Amit Saani ki List or Chittagong. So, I am really looking forward and I can’t really relate to Sunita so I am really excited about it,” she says.

Though Vega is eyeing Bollywood, she hasn’t ruled out making more inroads in the South, where she began her career.

“I have been talking to many directors in the South, especially in Tamil film industry. Tamil film industry is my home as I started my career there, so I hope I  do a Tamil film very soon,” she adds.

Talking about the differences in Bollywood and Kollywood cultures, Vega says, “When I first started I thought there was a slight difference, but I think now Mumbai is becoming more professional. I find that the characters and stories in the Tamil film industry  are so brilliant. In that sense Hindi film industry still has a little bit of catching up to do. Tamil film industry is all about making good cinema — it’s all about creating good characters and telling excellent stories. And in Hindi film industry, it’s about telling good stories with little bit more focus on style, on stylisation and sturdiness of filmmaking,” Vega adds.

Be it Bollywood or Kollywood, Vega is keen on working with some great filmmakers.

She says, “You know, there are plenty of directors that I really want to work in Bollywood — be it Vikramaditya Motwane — or Prakaash Jha, who is one filmmaker I always wanted to work with and I’m getting that chance now. In Kollywood, I loved working with Pandiraj in Pasanga and Venkat in Saroja and I would love to work with them again and I would also like to work with Mani Ratnam Sir and Sasi sir. They  are  such amazing film makers. And, I’m really looking forward to working more in the Tamil film industry.”

While she is busy with her next big flick in Hindi, the actor who also starred in Telugu films like Happy Happy Gaa (2010), by Oceian Films where she played the lead role and in Housefull (2012) which was Directed by Ajay Bhuyan, is excited about a children series, which she is producing.

“My upcoming projects are of course Gangaajal 2, I also have a children series I’m producing then I’m working on an English sitcom series here in New York. So yes, these are my next three projects and I hope to tell you about a few more in the coming few months,” adds Vega.
