Sathuran, a crime thriller that is to hit screens later this week, is all set to catch the attention of film buffs. Talking about the film, Rajeev Prasad, the director says, “Sathuran is used to refer to a smart, intelligent city person. The story takes place in a period of 24 hours.”
It begins on a casual note by 6.15 one morning and picks up intensity by the time evening falls and finally ends the next morning. “The film revolves around an auto driver, played by Rajaj of Moodar Koodam (2013) fame, who finds himself in a fix. It is about a crime committed. How Rajaj inadvertently gets pulled into it and eventually gets out of it is what the film is all about. The inner plot of the film is based on the irregularities in the field of medicine,” he explains.
Director Rajeev, who is all praise for Rajaj, says the hero went out of the way to get into the skin of the character of an auto driver. “He learnt the mannerisms of an auto driver. In fact, he even learnt to ride an auto for the film. Now, he says that he has mastered another skill and has another profession,” chuckles the director.
Though the film is not based on a true incident, it is inspired by several instances that have actually taken place. “We all have come across such instances in real life. On many occasions, auto drivers might not even know that their passenger is actually a criminal and they invariably find themselves in a tricky situation,” points out Rajeev.
The film also features Bengaluru girl Varsha as the female lead. “I picked Varsha for the role as she resembles Nazriya.
She has done a good job in the film,” says Rajeev, who, apart from being an assistant director of Suresh Krissna, has also made several ad films. “I was inspired by the auto driver’s role in Baasha (1995); it was always there in my mind. I guess that led me to pick this role for this script,” he adds.
