'I Wanted to Play Role of a Slum Dweller'

Chandini gives a lowdown on the many flicks she has signed and also gives a sneak peek into her next release, Vil Ambu

Even as her film Vil Ambu gears up to hit screens, actor Chandini, who made her debut in Tamil with director K Baghyaraj’s film Siddhu +2 (2010), says the year 2015 has been a great one for her.  “This year, like the last, has been good. I have a number of interesting projects,” begins the actor who is choosy about her roles and wants each one of her characters to be different from the others that she has done.

“Vil Ambu has been directed by Ramesh Subramaniam, an associate of director Suseenthiran. I play the role of a slum dweller in this film. I chose this film because I have never played a girl from the slums before. In fact, I auditioned to get this role,” she admits candidly.

“I had to get out of my comfort zone to play this role. Getting into the skin of this character was challenging but it was worth the effort. The film has a bunch of youngsters like Sri, Harish Kalyan, Sanskriti and Shrishti apart from me. The treatment will definitely be talked about,” says the actor with confidence.

So, what is this film all about? “It is about two characters who affect each other’s lives without even realising about it. It is an interesting plot,” says Chandini. Apart from Vil Ambu, she also has Ennodu Vilayadu with Bharath and Pallandu Vazhga directed by Anjana of Veppam fame.

“Arun Krishnaswamy, a debutant, is directing Ennodu Vilayadu. I play a Christian girl called Nimmi in the film. She is a guitarist. I had a little sequence in the film in which I had to play the guitar and so had to rehearse for it. I had to undergo a little bit of training to get the chords right. The film is about a gambler and I play his love interest. Bharath and Kathir play the heroes and Sanchita Shetty plays the other heroine in the film. I have never done something that is totally romantic before and therefore chose to do this film,” Chandini explains.

“In Anjana’s Pallandu Vaazhga, I play an IT professional. My styling will be completely different in this film. Rahul Ravindran plays the hero. I am almost done shooting for this film. In fact, I only have five days left to complete this film,” she says and goes on to disclose the names of two other films that she is doing.

“I am a part of Naiyappudai, which is being produced by Kalaipuli S Dhanu and directed by a 19-year-old called Vijaya Kiran. The film features Pa Vijay and S A Chandrashekar in the lead. That apart, I am now working on another interesting project called Kannula Kasu Kaatappa. This film is being directed by Gautam Sunderrajan. Moreover, I have two films in Telugu as well. One is called Aaina Ishtam Nuvvu in which Mahesh Babu’s nephew Nawin Vijay Krishna is making his debut. Then, I have Chitram Balare Vichitram, which is all set to hit screens on January 1. The film is a horror-comedy and it is a heroine-oriented script. I fell in love with this film the moment I learnt about it,” she says.
