An Inspid Plot With no Impact

Debutant filmmaker Agni’s Manitha Kadhal Alla misses a chance to craft an interesting tale around the premise of a love story between an angel and a human being

Wearing the hat of writer, director and hero, debutant Agni crafts his plot around the romance of an angel and a mortal.

Agni (a former cinematographic assistant to Rajeev Menon) essays the role of the angel in Manitha kadhal Alla. The early part is taken up by the grief of a wealthy lonely girl (debutant Tarushi), who had lost her parents in an accident. The lord (Nasser, has little to do) sends Agni the angel to earth to cheer her up and orders his return to the heavens once he has accomplished his mission. It’s about how Agni does it and the inevitable romance that brews between the duo.

The lead pair is at the most adequate, and in such a bleak scenario the actors cannot be expected to leave any impact. Episodes of the evil machinations of the girl’s relatives who have an eye on her wealth, and the attempt of a jealous suitor who tries to force her into a marriage, are situations that follow a predictable path.

There is Manobala, another angel, who follows Agni to earth to support him in his mission. His actions are limited to getting beaten up by people and reduced to begging on the streets.

A lacklustre screenplay and insipid narration ensure that the film offers very little entertainment to the viewers.

The fun moments one would associate with a plot in this genre, where the celestial being tries to adjust to the world of mortals and tries to cope with their lifestyle and habits, are barely touched upon. There is a futile attempt at touching an emotional chord towards the latter part. But there is nothing of particular interest to the audience.
