Dull Screenplay with no Impact

Film- Kaalakattam

Director-K.Bhaskar

Cast- Pawan,Govind, Satyasri, Uma, Rajendran

Set in a coastal hamlet, the plot of Kaalakattam centers around two buddies. Thomas is a fisherman and Shiva, a struggling dancer in films. But a rumour of an affair between Thomas’s wife and Shiva leads to a misunderstanding between the friends, changing the equation between the duo. Thomas takes a drastic step which he regrets later. The whole scene of the estrangement could have been handled in a more convincing manner. The fact that it is a debutant’s work is evident throughout.

The screenplay is lacklustre, and the narration is insipid. There is nothing fresh or exciting either in the screenplay or in the presentation. Naan kadavul Rajendran gets a lot of space and is present almost throughout. But even his presence doesn’t salvage the film. On the positive side, the film takes just about two hours of viewing time. The lead actors Pawan and Govind, as Thomas and Shiva respectively, have put in a good effort in a lost cause that hardly makes an impact.
