COIMBATORE: Kollywood actor Simbu, who appeared at the office of Assistant Commissioner of Police (L&O), Central Sub-Division, told cops that he had sung the controversial “Beep Song” as he was depressed after a failed love affair.
Speaking to Express, police officers privy to the interrogation said that Simbu was asked a set of 35 questions. He told Kattoor Police that he had composed the song himself and that the music director Anirudh Ravichander was in no way involved in the composition of the song. The inquiry was recorded on a video camera.
On Monday morning, the actor, sporting a pair of designer shades and a crisp black shirt, came to the police station along with his father T Rajendar and a small entourage. Members of his fan club, who had heard that the actor was to make an appearance thronged the police station. By the time the actor emerged after questioning, a crowd of more than 500 people stood outside, waiting to catch a glimpse of the actor. After being questioned for twenty minutes by the police, the actor emerged from the police station and was greeted by waiting fans, who chanted “S.T.R.”
Speaking to reporters, Simbu said he answered all of the police’s questions surrounding the incident and reiterated that he had done nothing wrong. “I am not in a position to discuss the case.I leave everything to God,” he said.
The city police had registered a case against Simbu and music director Anirudh Ravichandran for the release of the “Beep Song,” the lyrics of which feminists and women’s rights activists claimed was sexist and derogatory towards women.
