Vimal, who impressed audiences and critics in a number of movies including Kalavani (2010), Kalakalappu (2012) and Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga (2013), says he has decided to take things slow. The actor, who takes his time before deciding a project, says, “For a long time, I felt I was doing things in a hurry. So, I deliberately chose to slow down, analyse things and then accept projects that would take me in the right direction. The first film after making that conscious decision is Mapla Singam.”

Talking about his role in Mapla Singam, he says, “The film is a romantic comedy directed by N Rajasekar. It features a number of stars such as Anjali, Suri, Kali and Swaminathan sir. I play Anbu, the nephew of a politically powerful chairman. My uncle considers my character more of a son than a nephew in the film. Anjali plays a lawyer and she belongs to the rival camp. Initially, we keep fighting, but then join hands to resolve an issue and become friends in the film. The film is a laugh riot and has come out exceptionally well.”

Vimal’s decision comes as a surprise, as several teams are interested in casting him as the lead in their projects. The actor explains, “Earlier, I would do four or five films at a time. Now, I have limited myself to doing just two at a time. I have decided that I will work on one while the other is under production. Otherwise, I will not be able to allot time to each project; it will also help me to put in more effort in each film. Now, I have time to listen to good scripts. In fact, I take the time to listen to good scripts.”

Vimal has always come across as a happy go-lucky person who has no fear. He considers the statement seriously for a few minutes before saying, “I used to be scared to say ‘No’, even if I didn’t like a script. I thought if I said ‘no’, they would sideline me in the industry. Now, when I think about it, I wonder why I should agree to do something that doesn’t feel right,” he smiles.
