COIMBATORE: Tamil film actor Simbu on Monday appeared at the Kattoor police station in connection with the controversial 'Beep Song' case that the police had registered against him and music director Anirudh Ravichander in December last year.

It may be recalled that the cases were registered on the basis of a complaint filed by an office-bearer of the All India Democratic Women's Association against Simbu for composing the song, believed to be obscene in nature and denigrating women.

Later, several others too filed complaints against the actor for the song. Police booked the duo under Sections 4 r/w 6 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prevention) Act 1986 and Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of women) of the Indian Penal Code as well as Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.

The song, claimed to have been leaked online, is alleged to have been sung by Simbu and set to tune by Anirudh. However, Simbu, for his part, has claimed that the incomplete song only had dummy lyrics and was for his private consumption and that it had been stolen and leaked on to the net. Anirudh, for his part, reiterated that he had not composed the song and therefore requested the cops to withdraw the case against him.

On Monday morning, Simbu, sporting designer shades and wearing a crisp black shirt, came to the police station along with his father, T Rajendar and an entourage. Members of his fan club, who had heard through the grapevine that the actor was to make an appearance in a Coimbatore court, also thronged the police station. By the time the actor emerged after his questioning, a crowd of more than 500 people had gathered outside.

Traffic slowed to a crawl along Nanjappa Road. After being questioned for 20 minutes, the actor emerged from the police station and was greeted by fans who began chanting "S.T.R."

Talking to reporters, Simbu said he answered all of the police's questions regarding the incident and reiterated that he had done nothing wrong. "I am not in a position to discuss the case... I leave everything to God," he said, before waving to his fans and leaving.
