Rahman may have made his debut in 1983, but it took him almost three decades  to get his “career best”. The sleeper hit Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru aka D-16, which is doing a great business in Tamil Nadu, has given the actor a great milestone in a career spanning three decades. The movie will hit the screens this Friday.

“This is the best in my career,” he told media in Kochi, while announcing the release of the movie in Kerala. He was accompanied by  22-year-old  director Karthick Naren and producer Maha Vishnu.

“When Karthick approached me for the role, I didn’t want to play a cop again  as I have done too many similar roles. But, then he wasn’t ready to leave it at that.

But, once I heard the script, I was impressed. I always wanted to support newcomers, but even then I was apprehensive as Karthick was too young.

But, his talent and planning surprised me. I was convinced the first day of shoot. However, I only saw the movie before its official release and to be frank, that is when I understood the  story completely.

Meanwhile, Karthick says it was easy to make a film but hard to release it. “I am grateful I could release it successfully. It is nearing 70  days at more than 30 theatres at Tamil Nadu. We were planning to release it in Kerala on December 29, but the demonetisation spoiled the plans. Then came the theatre ban. I expect support from Malayalis,” says the director.
