As the global economy suffers one of the worst meltdowns in history, the faces of shocked investors at Dalal Street plaster every magazine and newspaper. We all know what these faces look like.

They look a lot like us — discussing stocks with friends while taking cigarette breaks, passing by on pavements, or in between jumping in and out of crowded local trains.

Everybody is worried about their money. Will the market recover from this blow? Will we ever see our money again? These are question on everybody’s lips. And in such a time, CNBC Awaaz has identified the need of the hour and responded with The Gul & Tulsian Show — a talk-show that promises to give investors, traders and players the right advice to guide them towards risk-free investments.

The show brings together Gul Teckchandani, Chief Investment Officer of Sun F&C Asset Management Company, a big player in the mutual fund industry, and S P Tulsian, of sptulsian.com and editor of Premium Investments.

The two financial experts debate it out at a coffee table along with the anchor and a guest.

Teckchandani and Tulsian are clued into the latest bulls and bears and they also seem well in tune with the ethos of the common investor on the street. The two analysts discuss the problem at large giving investors the bigger picture as well as analyse sectoral trends. Listening to them, one could know what a Merrill Lynch or a Morgan Stanley is really thinking.

They also put things in context, at times citing moments of similar crisis in the past and the lessons learnt.

However, as theories are propagated and suggestions made, the cacophony sometimes descends into the din one imagines inside the stockexchange or the your everyday commute. There is also an over-abundance of marketjargon and name-throwing assuming the common viewer to be well-versed in such matters.

A show on the stockmarket is no more a niche or special interest programme and some lucidity in the discussions would be helpful.

VERDICT: In times like these, everybody’s a self-proclaimed investment guru. But it’s important to get the ‘low-down’ straight from the horse’s mouth. And this duo is one of the best in the stable. The show is certainly worth it.
