Actor Sharwanand is known for picking revolutionary scripts. From playing a supporting actor to a protagonist, he has only 15 films to his credit, but most of them speak in volumes the experimental roles he attempted during the eight years-stint he has with the glamour world. We’ve seen him as a spoilt sibling, an obsessive lover, a mentally-challenged yet obedient son and a do-gooder. And now, he is to pass on a message to youngsters through his Tamil flick ‘Engeyum Eppodhum’, which is getting released in Telugu as well.
The Tamil version opened to flattering reviews in Kollywood on September 16 and is declared a hit. It is the maiden production venture of film-maker AR Murugadoss and marks the entry of Fox Star Studios (co-producer) in South Indian films.
Murugadoss’ associate M Saravanan turned director with this. “The movie has two love stories converging on an accident spot. All the characters are kept natural and realistic so as to appeal to the viewers. As regards mine, I played an IT guy named Gautham, who is reserved and recluse. It was tough on my part to speak through eyes and facial expressions most of the time, but I pulled it through only because of the unflinching belief that the makers have in my acting skills,” Sharwanand says.
The young hero is paired with ‘Nadodigal’ fame Ananya, while the other couple is Jai and Anjali. A riveting narrative, out-of-the-world treatment and exceptional screenplay worked wonders for the Tamil venture, quoted critics in their reviews. But for Sharwa, it’s Saravanan’s perception of the public’s mind-set that weaved magic on screen.
"It’s no less than a fortune to work for a director (Murugadoss) who contributed marvels like Ramana and Ghajini to the tinsel town. Upon this, it’s my pleasure to get associated with Fox Star Studios that produced spectacles like Avatar,” he is all praises for the makers.
The ‘Vennela’ star shot to fame with Jagarlamudi Radhakrishna’s award-winning ‘Gamyam’, which he followed up with exceptional works like ‘Andari Bandhuvaya’ and ‘Prasthanam’, both bagging honours.
He debuted in Kollywood with ‘Kadhalna Summa Illai’, the remake of ‘Gamyam’, and appeared in ‘Naalai Nammathe’ later. “However, ‘Engeyum Eppodhum’ served me as a milestone in Tamil industry and I shall cite it as another ‘Gamyam’ in my career,” he wondered.
Post-success of his latest offering, Sharwanand is flooded with several offers in Kollywood and has turned out to be the sought-after actor for the Tamil technicians. He is learnt to have been approached by big production houses even. “I would comment on it only after signing one,” he declares on a concluding note.
