COIMBATORE: Filming of the Telugu movie ‘Racha’ scheduled at the Zero Point in Aliyar Dam here was called off on Thursday after an Express report ‘A Song-and-Dance Scare in the Wild’ highlighted the threat posed by the shooting to wildlife in the vicinity. The film crew had erected a large set at the Zero Point for filming a song sequence with actors Ram Charan Tej and Thamanna in the lead.
On Thursday, PWD officials, who had previously given permission to the crew to film to shoot in ‘safe zones’, instructed them to vacate the place immediately. Subsequently, the wooden set erected at the dam was dismantled on the directions of the officials.
“We were asked to abandon shooting this morning. So, we shifted to Kundalapatti in Udumalpet for erecting a new set for the song sequence,” Pollachi Raja, the location manager for the ‘Racha’ team said.
Raja said that the dam site was chosen for the shoot as the story of the movie revolved around the concept of water bodies.
Welcoming the action of the PWD officials, Kalidas, president of Osai, a Kovai-based NGO dealing with environmental issues, said “in future the authorities must not give permission to film crews to shoot around in and around water bodies.’’
