Tamil super star Suriya recreates magic with Singam 2 in Tollywood.
An encore and more

Donning the khakee has been a role of great power and responsibility for Tamil super star Suriya. Reprising his role as the cop with cojones in the sequel, the actor is looking forward to an encore in the future. City Express catches up with the actor who was in Hyderabad to celebrate the success of the Telugu version of the movie.

“The movie has been declared a hit by Telugu industry and the entire crew is happy to see the movie grow bigger and bigger. I love the audience here as they always accept me with arms wide open,” says Suriya.

The sequel to Yamudu which topped the charts in 2010  continues the thread where the super cop takes on an international drug cartel. “A look at myself in the uniform brings in a sense of responsibility. We were all charged up portraying the police force and lived the characters. I had to maintain my  fitness levels throughout the shoot and Anal Arasu master who composed stunts for the movie was present on the sets almost every day, urging me to give my best to the action sequences,” says the actor who plans to don the producer’s hat with his production house D2 Entertainment.

Not just the audience, Suriya’s performance in the movie managed to wow wife Jyothika as well, confesses the actor. “My wife clapped for the first time for my performance during a preview and friends came out all smiles. I feel happy to see them enjoy my work. Even in theaters the audience response was good, appreciating our hard work,” says Suriya.

The time was ripe for Singam 2, feels the actor, though the Southern film industry has one too many examples to prove that sequels don’t work with the audiences. “In the last three years, there were many who asked – why not Singam 2 and that encouraged us to take up the project,” says the actor who is set to team up with director  Gautham Menon for his next. “Since it’s a Gautham Menon directorial, I am expecting soothing tracks, a love scene, some sentiment  and  a bit of action. It will be challenging for us to bring out an entertainer as our partnership raises expectations,” says Suriya who hopes to be third time lucky with Menon.

Will the super cop avatar make a comeback in future? “I’m in for it,” says the actor as a parting shot.
