#1 EVARU (2019): Be it Sherlock Holmes or Scooby-Doo, a good crime thriller should keep the audience thinking until the mystery is finally solved. Venkat Ramji did a commendable job in this sense with his adaptation of Spanish thriller 'The Invisible Guest.' While some twists in the plot came with the original idea, the writer-director rightly employed his creativity to make adjustments to the plot in an attempt to make it more convincing to the Indian audience. Guess what, it worked.

'Evaru' is one movie that you don't to miss if you are a fan of the genre and a part of the credit also goes to the flawless screen presence of Adivi Sesh and Regina Cassandra as a 'corrupt' cop and murder-accused celebrity-wife respectively.

Intelligence alert forces India to launch a counter-op involving the S21 sub under the command of Captain RV Singh (Kay Kay Menon). We don't get to see many Indian movies involving underwater war sequences. But Sankalp Reddy has shot torpedo launches and mine deployments in great detail, along with presenting how exactly a sub operates. As beliefs, strategies and emotions cross swords under the sea the movie successfully sails clear off jingoism, but make us feel proud of our soldiers.

#3 MAHANATI (2018): A tribute to erstwhile actor Savitri, who was crowned the 'Nadigaiyar Thilagam' in her prime, this Nag Ashwin movie is just a good biography, but one of the finest Telugu movies in recent times. Keerthy Suresh adapts the late 'Mahanati' so well that at times you might wonder if it is really Savitri on the screen.

Dulquer Salmaan delivers one of his best performance till date as 'Kaatal Mannan' Gemini Ganesan, whose marriage and relationship with Savitri is a defining part of the movie. The rise and fall of Savitri are captured truthfully and the scenes involving film studios of Madras is perfectly gracious. Samantha Akkineni and Vijay Devarakonda also feature in the film as journalists destined to dig out the untold story of the superstar.

#5 RANGASTHALAM (2018): Sukumar's period drama, set in the 1980s, is almost three hours long. But the pre-liberalisation era rural setting, which opens up the problems of casteism, feudalism and corruption within the framework of a typical mass entertainer, still delivers a satisfying movie experience. Ram Charan is Chittibabu - the deaf, stubborn village youth whose love for his brother (Aadhi Pinisetty) forces him to challenge the three-decade-long authority of the Panchayat president (Jagapati Babu).

#6 GOODACHARI (2018): Agent Vinod, The Family Man, Phantom... while it is justified that most Indian secret service movies are spun around the national and industrial capitals, Sashi Kiran Tikka's superhit finally brings the super spies down to the south. Adivi Sesh is Gopi aka Arjun, a fresh recruit of the 'Trinetra' agency, responsible to deal with both internal and external threats.

However, a wanted terrorist's (Jagapati Babu) plot to ambush the agency blooms, taking Gopi into an unexpected frontier against his own past. This isn't a perfect movie and one can don't have to move mountains to find the loopholes. Yet, again, it satisfies the appetite for a good action flick, got drama and moments of excellence at par with any super-soldier flicks you can think of.

#7 AGENT SAI SRINIVASA ATHREYA (2019): Swaroop's Agent Athreya is not Myshkin's Kaniyan Pongundran, or as the character himself claims, Sir Coyle's Sherlock Holmes. Naveen Polishetty essays a struggling detective waiting for his break. He is prone to mistakes, got no weapon expertise but has the heart to dive deep when the time calls. Good humour is galore and a fresh subject is on the table as 'Agent' and his assistant Sneha's (Shruti Sharma) investigations unfold a gripping plot.
