6 years of 'Premam': Here are top scenes from Nivin Pauly-Sai Pallavi superhit we love rewatching

A blockbuster, trend-setter, musical-hit... Alphonse Putheran's "Premam" was many things at the same time. Probably the biggest hit of 2015, it remains one of the most-watched movies inside and outside Kerala. Five years since it hit the theatres, here are eight scenes from the movie that we all love to revisit over and over again.

#1 CAMPUS BRAWL: The 'Kalippu song' was necessary because it made clear to the viewers that George is not that harmless neighbourhood loverboy anymore. This is the first time we see George and his friends in the second phase of the story and the mass scene, winged by slow-motion editing and blood-boiling music introduces the angry young man that the teenager has grown into. #2 THE BAD-ASS DAD: 'Don't you bloody ever try to trouble me ever again with such petty flimsy issues!' George's father says before storming out with his son and his friends. Renji Panicker's cameo appearance was fun. The way he mokes the worthless 'macho' teachers after countering their complaints which he finds ridiculous were received with rounds of cheers in theatres. In addition, Alphonse used the background score from the movie 'Commissioner' (which Panicker himself scripted) filling the heads of multiple generations of Malayali film lovers with nostalgia. After the scene, we are left imagining what if our own parents ever showed such a cool attitude before teachers. (Screengrab)

#3 DANCE REHEARSAL: Sai Pallavi was little known to Keralites before 'Premam'. Most of them had little idea that she is a proven performer and a pocket-rocket when it comes to fast numbers. The director utilised this element of surprise elegantly in this scene to introduce her charisma on the dance floor. As she begins to choreograph the song for Koyah, Shambhu and George, the way the trio's jaws drop is exactly how most of us felt the first time after watching this scene. (Screengrab)

#4 'JAVA IS POWERFUL': Vimal Sir (Vinay Fort) and Sivan Sir (Soubin Shahir) was phenomenal with their combination humour throughout the movie. This particular scene where Vimal struggles to explain the programming and the meaning of the cartoon involving dog and cat remains a cult meme material. 'He don't know anything,' George tells his friends in the last bench as we all are reminded of the terrible hours wasted adjusting to the boring lectures of (some) incompetent tutors back in college and schools. #5 MALAR'S INTRO: Mistaken for a fresher, the new guest lecturer is challenged by the trio as she walks into the college for the first time. She plays along for sometime before dramatically revealing that she isn't a student. The scene had no music, slow motion or special effects as the heroine gets introduced for the first time, but yet possessed a subtle charm as it clearly establishes the adorable traits of the character. #6 THAT 'GIRIRAJAN KOZHI' WE ALL KNOW: Sharaf U DHeen's proposal to Mary, before getting whacked by her father was genuinely funny for the apt fusion of situation humour and scripting. As he delivers a monologue composed of Arabic and old Malayalam movie dialogues at the bridge, interruptions keep on happening before destiny arrives... (Screengrab)

#7 GEORGE'S BREAKDOWN: Realisation hits George hard at Malar's residence and he got no words to say. All the special moments they had doesn't exist in her memory anymore and he is reduced to just a student or rather nobody in a matter of hours. This was probably the most challenging scene for Nivin Pauly in the whole film as an actor and he delivers convincingly the heartbreak the character has to go through. (Screengrab)

#8 THE TRUTH: 'He is happy now, let him be,' Malar tells Arivazhagan on their way out from George and Celin's reception. When did she get her memory back, or was it ever really lost? The director leaves it open-ended, free for the viewer's judgement. Not many will disagree if one says a better closing was impossible. (Screengrab)
