JAYA JAYA JAYA JAYA HEY (Malayalam): Vipin Das deserves an award for adding humour without compromising the message behind this film on women's empowerment. Darshana once again won our hearts but so did Basil whose acting reminded us of such men from our own families. (Photo | YouTube)

GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI (Hindi): Sanjay Leela Bhansali's choice in casting Alia Bhatt proved the naysayers wrong. Her honest, powerful yet vulnerable performance as Gangubai, a woman sold into sex trade who later becomes a mafia queen and messiah for other oppressed women, won our hearts. (File photo | IMDb)
