HYDERABAD: After giving us out-of-the-box web series like Bang Baaja Baaraat and Man’s World, Y Films is set to bring back the cult thriller Darr, in the form of an online show called Darr 2.0. The series, that will feature the key characters Kiran, Rahul and Sunil, is however going to be a modern take on the subject of stalking and will show the cons of social media, leading to cyber crimes.

Talking about the series, producer Ashish Patil says, “It is based in the backdrop of social media and cyber crime. How we put ourselves out there without really even knowing who is watching. We all have a little bit of fear inside us and we all have a little bit of Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan) also inside. The theme is very relevant in today’s time.” The series that will be directed by Vikas Chandra, who was an associate director for Dibakar Banerjee’s Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, recently launched its teaser that recreates the 1993 film’s music and the famous ‘K-K-K-Kiran’ dialogue.

The teaser focusses on a mysterious guy stalking girls on social media. “We did a very interesting promotion to launch the teaser. We told fans that they had a chance to feature in our next project and people sent in their photos and details blindly, so all the photos you see in the teaser are real people,” shares the Mumbai-based producer who recently produced Sex Chat With Pappu and Papa, a web series featuring a curious seven-year-old boy and his father and how the father explains sexually explicit topics to his son in an entertaining yet simple way.

“I wanted it to be a conversation starter and not in a boring kind of way, but in an entertaining manner. Some of it is even based on personal experience. I have a 12 year-old son,” laughs Patil. The series will be releasing in 15 languages soon.
