HYDERABAD: While declining the plea for a court-monitored probe in gangster Nayeemuddin case, a division bench of the Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the TS government to file a detailed counter affidavit in three weeks covering all aspects particularly the status of the investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the matter. The bench made it clear that it will consider the plea of ordering CBI probe only after it peruses the status report.

The bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice A Shankar Narayana was dealing with the PIL filed by CPI leader K Narayana seeking CBI probe into criminal activities and terror unleashed by Nayeem and his gang members.

The petitioner submitted that the investigation has not made any breakthrough in this episode and the reason cited is that many top senior IAS, IPS and politicians had good access to Nayeem which led to building up a vast empire of the gangster. The public is not able to get a hint of the case as to what is happening in the case for a sometime.

Senior counsel S Satyam Reddy, appearing for the petitioner, told the court that Nayeem was killed in an encounter by the police in August. Immediately after the incident the state government had constituted a special investigation team to probe into the assets of Nayeem and that the SIT so far registered 62 cases. The senior counsel said that the SIT has so far not looked into the allegation against Nayeem’s gang with regard to human trafficking.

Reacting to these submissions, the bench questioned how the petitioner presumed that the SIT is not making any progress.
