HYDERABAD: Terminal expansion works at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) will soon begin to cater to the increasing air passenger demand. According to a senior official from GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL), the expansion will start in the beginning of 2018 and end by the end of 2019. 

“At present, Hyderabad airport is handling around 12,000 flights every month. The airport has witnessed 15.24 million passengers per annum in FY 2016-17, registering a growth of approximately 22 per cent in overall passenger traffic and 23 per cent in air traffic movements over FY 2015-16,” said SGK Kishore, CEO of GHIAL speaking in Hyderabad on Thursday.

MoA signed
GHIAL, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad and Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to promote Malaysian tourism in the catchment area of RGIA i.e. southern and central India. According to MoA, various Malaysian tourism promotional campaigns will be launched and discounts will be provided to air travelers flying to Malaysian destinations from Hyderabad. Kishore said India will emerge as the third largest market for air travel presenting huge growth potential for RGIA.
