HYDERABAD : Amgoth Tukaram,19, looks like a regular student if you spot him in his class at Noble Degree College, Dilsukhnagar. But few know that this young warrior born in Thakkellapally Thanda of Rangareddy District has scaled formidable peaks. A Mallakhamba (pole gymnastic) player since school, he joined Scouts & Guides during his tenth grade. He later joined NCC and aced in all events. Noticing his talent and fitness, his coach encouraged him to take up mountaineering.

He got trained in Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports in Jammu and Kashmir for a month in 2015. Till date, he went on three expeditions, the first, Mt. Narbo (17,145 ft) in 2016, Mt. Rudugaria (19,091 ft), and Stok Kangri (20,187 ft), which is World’s Highest Trekkable Mountain”. “The snow bridge broke, and as I was the last person I slipped, but my friends helped me just in time” he said, recollecting his Mt. Narbo’s expedition.

“While going high up the altitude,  pulse rate decreases and so, mountaineers are required to drink plenty of water. We usually survive by eating dry fruits, instant noodles and tea. “There were also times when we survived eating snow,” Tukaram said. In March 2019, he is scheduled to climb the world’s highest peak, Mt. Everest (8846 m) through the South Col. route, often considered a risky route. Tukaram is in need of sponsors to help achieve his dream. He left for Tanzania on June 27 to climb Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain.
