

HYDERABAD: In a gruesome incident, a two-year-old boy was allegedly mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs last night in Jawahar Nagar, Hyderabad.
The incident took place on Tuesday night when the boy came out of his house and stray dogs dragged him to some metres and bit him resulting in grievous injuries.
The severely injured boy was rushed to a private hospital and from there referred to a government hospital where he died last night, according to a police official at Jawahar Nagar police station.
The family hails from Siddipet district and shifted to Jawahar Nagar a few months ago. Based on a complaint from the boy’s parents, a case was registered by the police.
Hyderabad has witnessed several such incidents in the recent past where children and adults are either being mauled to death or getting injured seriously by dogs.
Chief Minister, A. Revanth Reddy has expressed grief over the incident where the boy was attacked and killed by stray dogs in Jawahar Nagar. The authorities were directed to take action to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future. He alerted the authorities to take necessary measures to prevent the menace of stray dogs as such incidents are taking place at regular intervals. A call centre or a toll-free number has to be set up to receive complaints from people in areas where there is a problem of stray dogs menace for taking immediate action.
He said that an expert committee should be formed with representatives of voluntary organisations such as veterinary doctors and Blue Cross to study the issue of climatic conditions or seasonal reasons for the attacks of stray dogs on infants and children every year. The officials were advised to look into vaccination of stray dogs, or practices followed in other states.
The Chief Minister directed the Medical and Health Department to make available the necessary medicines immediately in case of dog attacks in all urban health centres under GHMC, primary health centres and hospitals of the state.
The Chief Minister alerted the GHMC and municipal authorities to take adequate precautions and the cooperation of all slum dwellers, colonies and concerned ward committees to prevent such incidents.
