NEW DELHI: Even as Union Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal retracted his stand on raising the cut-off percentage for students appearing for the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) entrance exam, the BJP on Tuesday trained guns at him for denying students from mofussil schools, the hinterland and villages the opportunity to sit for the IIT-JEE and other exams.

Advising the UPA ministers to hold dialogue and consultations and reach consensus on important issues before hogging the limelight, the BJP asked them to do homework before making off-the-cuff remarks.

While Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh favoured the scrapping of Kyoto Protocol on climate change, Sibal wanted the cut-off percentage of IIT-Joint Entrance Examination to be raised from 65 to 80-85. BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad condemned the stand of Sibal, saying that he favoured the elitist students. He reminded Sibal that he was accountable to the entire country and not the very few, who were the privileged class.
