NEW DELHI: The Indian Railways is to set up an integrated security system (ISS) at 202 important and sensitive railway stations across the country, as part of its efforts to supplement the conventional methods of security.
And the ISS will become operational at 72 stations by March end while the remaining stations will get the facility in 2012-13.
The integrated security system comprising the state-of-the-art machines and the latest software will provide for multiple screening/checking of passengers right from the point of entry. And CCTVs will be mounted to scour the concourse, waiting rooms, platforms and overbridges. “The CCTV system will give automatic signals in case of suspected baggage, excessive crowd, intrusion by unauthorised persons,” a railway official said.
Besides, the ISS would employ hand-held metal detectors,large-sized X-Ray machines for screening baggage and bomb detection & disposal systems.
