The 18th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) got under way amid much fanfare here on Saturday, with Bollywood stars Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Mithun Chakraborthy inaugurating the mega event at a gala function.  Big B was the chief guest at the inaugural function, having been specially invited to the event’s inauguration, by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. And he charmed the gathering by speaking a few lines in chaste Bengali.

Earlier, at an event to promote his upcoming film, SRK said that he was a big fan of Didi and added that it would take time for brand ‘Bengal’ to become a household name.

As many 189 films from 60 countries will be screened at this year’s festival which has ‘Africa’ as its theme.
