Five months after the failed coup attempt, the BJD has finally taken action against rebel leader Pyarimohan Mohapatra with the party state executive on Friday passing a resolution to expel him and ask him to resign as a Rajya Sabha member.
The resolution which was unanimously passed in the state executive presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also expelled the chief spokesman for the Odisha Jana Morcha (OJM) Jagneswar Babu from the BJD.
Both Pyarimohan and Jagneswar had been suspended from the party earlier.
Announcing the decision, revenue and Disaster Management Minister Surjya Narayan Patro alleged that the dissident MP Pyarimohan is spreading canards against the party president, the BJD and other leaders in the party since May 29 by forming the Odisha Jana Morcha (OJM) later.
“The state executive, therefore, decided to expel him from the primary membership of the BJD,” Patro said.
Patro alleged that Pyarimohan is also collecting donation in the name of OJM which violates the BJD constitution.
Besides, the state executive has also asked Pyarimohan to resign as Rajya Sabha MP as he was elected with the help of the BJD, he said.
The minister said that the state executive ratified the decision of the party president to suspend Pyarimohan after the May 29 incident.
Replying to questions in this regard, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kalpataru Das said that no show-cause notice is required to expel Pyarimohan from the BJD as the state executive, the highest decision making body in the regional outfit, has passed an unanimous resolution in regard.
Alleging that Pyarimohan indulged in gross anti-party activities by speaking against the party president Naveen at different public meetings, Das said that there is also no provision in the BJD constitution to form a parallel organisation without the approval of the president.
