The Congress party on Monday stated that Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid had effectively defended and countered the allegations levelled against him with data and facts and hence there was no need for him to resign. But party spokesperson Sandeep Dikshit evaded answering why former External Affairs Minister Shashi Tharoor was made to resign on the basis of unsubstantiated allegations. Congress spokesperson Sandeep Dikshit said that the Uttar Pradesh Government would go for an inquiry. Khurshid has gone to court and filed a defamation case against the media organisation that ran the story. “Let the inquiry committee and the courts decide,” said Dikshit. “A wrongdoing is wrongdoing, let it involve `70, `700 or `7,000. The inquiry will decide what is right or wrong. What is the culpability of the chairman in a trust,” asked Dikshit.
